Sorry State

Dear Editors:

I'm sorry about this, but I had to vent.

To those people who voted for George W. Bush because he is anti-intellectual and “for the people,” allow me to take apart your absurdity in two parts:

1. Sure, you can relate to this guy because, like you, and strangely like his father, he’s against those north-eastern elitists who run the media. Let’s forget that he went to both Yale and Harvard, both east-coast elitists schools. I think that is more appropriate for part 2 (see below). Instead, let’s focus on “anti-intellectual” for the most important job in the free world. Why would anyone, especially if they were totally stupid, want someone of their poor intellectual level to govern them? Because he’s a regular guy, like us?

C’mon people! You want to play poker with a regular guy. You want to bowl with a regular guy. You DO NOT want a regular guy to be making decisions about our nuclear arsenal, our dependence on imports, life-and-death decisions of our citizens. Leaders do those things. Does anyone remember that word? Leaders rise above the masses. They are not chosen because of cronyism. They are not chosen by George Schultz. Leaders are supposed to be exceptional people. Is George W. Bush exceptional in anyway?

2. If, by some amazing stretch of the imagination, someone can claim that Dubya is exceptional, by something other than being a privileged son, then how is George W for the people? He’s one of us? Well, no, he can’t be both an exceptional leader-type and one of the people at the same time. So let’s assume he is not an exceptional leader. He’s one of us, because all of us have grown up never having to achieve anything in life. My daddy never bought me an oil field, but when he did give me his old, beat-up car, I swore that the next step was the White House.

Dubya doesn’t listen to the small folk. He doesn’t care about the people. This attempt at the White House is simply to snub the elitists that knew he never belonged in their schools, in their ranks. All of his campaign and all of his rhetoric is just a big middle finger at a class of people who can’t believe that this guy is being taken seriously by anyone. But that is what the common folk are for, isn’t it? We swallow anything that is packaged nicely enough.

Wake up, you freaks. If you thought Dubya could be the next Reagan, if you actually believe lightening can strike twice for the Republicans, you are sadly mistaken. What did Daddy Bush ever do for America while President? His son is picking the same advisors, the same men who did nothing good for this country for four years. Daddy Bush was a caretaker president who actually couldn’t even keep up the mediocrity that this country was. Dubya won’t do any better. He has no idea what to do other than say, “I told you I could do it.” Regular guy? Yeah, sure, but that’s the whole problem.
